Never Go Away

Don’t be led down the garden path by the cleaned-up, last orders rhetoric of School Spirit ‘s cut-loose power-trippin’ pop cautionary tale ‘Drug Ghoul’ – Ryan Foltz’s lifestyle advice is not priggish, prudent disney channel moralising but instead a detached, rueful and probably introspective cartharsis about well, going a bit too far the way of the wasted. Except, not quite. Like a stone carved hollywood posterboy cast as a desperate, toilet stalled junkie, the teen-tattooed, punk scarred bare bones of the track’s stripped off squall are far too handsome to ever be anything but alluring – Foltz’s idling, stretched and er, narcotic vocal melody too comforting, warm-blooded and held happy to be truly spirit dowsing – as if the song seems to realise in a powerful moment of never-coming-down, brain bursting nihilism that perhaps being a ghoulish substance hound isn’t the worst fate to befall a young man on a summer evening afterall, for a couple of hot minutes or so at least.

We’ve previously mentioned our deep and true appreciation for London outfit Trailer Trash Tracys and as such it’s safe to say we’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of their debut single “Candy Girl”, out soon on those friendly and formidable purveyors of all things filed under G for great, No Pain In Pop . You can stream the love-sore, cinematic surf-glazed miracle here and then cop the vinyl over the counter at NPIP’s big beats boutique or at least, y’know if owning beautiful, spooky and timeless pop songs is yr thing. Here’s the demo for romancing in the outdoors:
