Our patience has been rewarded in great, bountiful spades of precious stuff however as Pitchfork lifted the lid on the pet project of Cassie of Vivian Girls adoration/Ramones referencing moniker and Woods -dwelling Kevin Morby this afternoon. “Meet Me In The City” is the result of just such a happy union – a giddied-up, reigns-throwing feral rodeo-rock runaway. A song that honours that simplest of desires – sweet and simple escape from everything – in a suitably unbridled, unhalting and joyful manner, the first jam from the group to emerge witnesses C+K’s vocals comingle in such a way that sees that wholesome, mother’s kitchen, sunday dinner country-pop duet tradition carjacked by two beautiful, blue-jeaned real-world evacuees burning rubber on the road to nowhere, or heaven, or a nowhere city that the very same heaven sometimes hides in.
