Summer Sunk

Perhaps the most aptly titled song of the year, “Underwater Sunshine” by Crgnlsn of Tuscon, Arizona is a spiralling, acid-washed technicolour jam that is at once brilliant – spun headlong in circles by the sort of loping, idling, hypnotic hook that swallowed most of our summer in the peculiar narcotics of slow-blooming repetition – and warped; the song is literally, erm, held underwater – on its back in unholy amounts of oily, clammy reverb that trips the whole thing out slightly and lends it an unusual, elusive, delirious ambience.
