Dig into this meaty newish cut from Tonstartssbandht ‘s forthcoming LP (more here) “Dick Nights”, sent to us fresh and freakish from the Montreal troupe this morning. Twistedly melodic in a sense somewhere between the music hall and the asylum, “Preston ‘Great Ass’ Imfat” rattles along on a supremely off-kilter, half-baked honky-tonk piano line that underpins a dueling pair of helium-huffing falcettos that sound as if plucked from a secret golden age of pop music as enshrined in the fraying minds of its survivors decades of abuse and confusion later – water on the brain, weight on the heart but dancing and joy in the imagination forever; the whole thing eventually breaking down into a hair-pullingly beautiful Beatlesian Barber-Shop blow-out like it was no big thing.
