Incoming 2010 - Pure Ecstasy

Welcome to Incoming 2010, our week-long series of posts intended both to celebrate the wonderful year in music that has been 2009 and also look forward eager-eyed to the beautiful new frontiers we hope to bound across in the next twelve months. For the feature, we’re going to ask fourteen of our boldest hopes for greatness in 2010 about their favourite records of the last year and their upcoming plans for the next, as well as posting some new and exclusive jams for your delectation. We’ve been digging on Pure Ecstasy for a while now since first hearing their spaced out wind-tunnel doo-wop courtesy of the “Future Nostalgia” cassette they’ve recently released on those fine purveyors of all that is good and righteous Leftist Nautical Antiques (and on the life-affirming Friendship Bracelet II compilation). Now with an LP being cooked up and a series of singles on Light Lodge and Acephale planned, we’re looking forward to PE’s narcotic and distant songs of heartsore sweetness and pristine pining becoming regular fixtures in our lives.

Favourite song of 2009?

Ok, it’s nearly impossible for me to pick just one song/album out of the galaxy of heinously righteous shit that dropped this year so i’m gonna spew a couple of stand out jamz off the top of my brain.

Best Coast – Make You Mine (buy) – Straight candy hook. When the “eww baby” parts hit – damnnnnnnn.

6 Tre G – Fresh – “pop two bars and throw a rock star party.” sha.

Favourite album of 2009?

Ducktails “s/t” LP – I’ll get stoned before i go to work and let all this dude’s records cruise me through to lunch.

Ducktails – Beach Point Pleasant

What are your plans for 2010?

Quit my job again. Sell off my shit again. Write 30 LPs. Avoid Venereal Disease. Tour Indonesia.

Can you tell us a little about your new track?

This is a demo version of the A side from a 45 that we’re doing for Acephale. The song is untitled as of yet. It was born out of the shithole of a jam space that we’ve got here in Austin. Some mind numbingly terrible band has recently moved into the storage space next to ours and was playing fucking Nirvana and Creed covers as loud as they could while we were recording. totally tried to murder our vibes. but pure ecstasy prevails. “all that is gentle shall overcome all that is hard and strong.” Jah bless.
