Incoming 2010 - Fluffy Lumbers

The slapdash suburban slacker-pop of Samuel Franklin, AKA Fluffy Lumbers has been one of our pet obsessions for the best part of 2009 and as such we’re pretty elated to be able to look forward to etching it on to the world in the form of a shared 7” with the afore-blogged Big Troubles as next year creeps into gear. Dig into some of Sam’s favourites of the year and then peep a preview of his side of that mouthwatering 7” below:
Favourite Track of 2009?
“I’m So Paid (feat. Lil’ Wayne & Young Jeezy)” : I heard this song for the first time in the fall of 2008 on Boston’s Jam’n 94.5 when I was driving to the supermarket. Rap music’s a bit of a slippery slope for me and I haven’t really listened to much rap music in 2009 but I think this is the greatest radio rap song I have ever heard (any year, ever). This is what I think radio rap should’ve sounded like in 2009 and I don’t understand why this wasn’t a #1 hit for years.
Other biggies: “American Flag” by Liam The Younger, “Under Your Spell” by Desire, “Rue De La Paix” and “Not Wrong” by Pants Yell!, any number of songs from Cass McCombs’ Catacombs, “Sufferer” by Devon Williams…
Favourite album of 2009?
“Exit Dreams” by The Hunches – I’ve been a big Hunches fan ever since my friend Liam sent me Hobo Sunrise over AIM sophomore year of high school and this album was everything I could have hoped for and more. 100% without flaw (seriously flawless). As much as I wish they’d stay together and keep releasing records I don’t know how they could top Exit Dreams. I read someplace that there may or may not be a new Hospitals album in the works and I imagine Chris Gunn will be featured again so that’s a big hope for 2010. Either that, or Chris Gunn needs to put out a solo record. Best guitarist of 2009!

What are your plans for 2010?
Tour (outside of America maybe?), record a full length record, and learn to play the guitar better. Get signed to Victory.
Can you tell us a little about the track you’ve sent us?
“Night Moves” is about an emotional pillow that remains unchanged during years of your life when you are undergoing large personal changes. The guitar riff was the first thing I fooled around with when I learned how to tune a guitar to drop D and can be played with one finger. The drum beat is the Metal setting on a Yamaha drum pad.

Catchiest jam, ever. I have this random recording of it from the CMJ Under Water Peoples showcase and I’ve been dying to know what it was. Transparent, conquering the world.
